What is a YouTube channel ID?

Every YouTube channel has a 24-character ID that starts with UC, like UCBJycsmduvYEL83R_U4JriQ. Names and @handles can change; the ID never does, so it's the safe value to store.

When you need it

The YouTube Data API and Analytics API ask for the channel ID. So do many integrations, dashboards and music distributors. It's also the only link to a channel that keeps working after a rename.

Links it understands

An @handle (youtube.com/@name or just @name), a channel link (youtube.com/channel/UC…), a custom link (youtube.com/c/name) and an old username link (youtube.com/user/name).

Finding your own ID

For your own channel, YouTube Studio shows it under Settings, Channel, Advanced settings. For anyone else's channel, paste its link above.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, no API key and no limit for normal use.

Does the ID change if the channel is renamed?

No. The channel ID stays the same for the life of the channel, whatever happens to its name or @handle.

Can I find a channel's other social accounts?

Yes: our full lookup takes a YouTube channel and finds the same creator on Instagram, TikTok, X and the other platforms we cover (15 in all), with the evidence for each match.
