Find the Instagram account from a YouTube channel: one creator, many accounts

Until recently, a YouTuber's Instagram was where the clips and the behind-the-scenes went. Now Instagram is paying some YouTubers to post the full episode there too, on the same day. If your product stores creators, ranks them or contacts them, you now need to find the Instagram account from a YouTube channel reliably, because a creator record has to hold one person, one show and several accounts that all carry it. This guide explains why the mapping matters now, how to resolve a YouTube channel to its Instagram, TikTok and X accounts with the sociallinks.dev API, and how to keep the map current.

What changed

In late October 2026 Instagram started testing Features, a horizontal format for videos up to 90 minutes long, with a small group of creators (The Hollywood Reporter). Creators can cut Reels from a Feature that link viewers back to the full video. Days later, Business Insider reported that Instagram had offered select YouTubers $50,000 to post their long-form videos as Features, with some offers reaching $500,000. The deals ask for the video on Instagram the same day it goes up on YouTube, and they do not require exclusivity.

YouTube is not standing still either. It is testing a $20 payout threshold, down from $100, for a randomly selected group of Partner Program creators in the US, India and Indonesia (YouTube). Both moves point the same way: the platforms are competing for the same creators, and the creators have every reason to publish everywhere at once.

For anyone who keeps a creator database, the practical result is simple. The same episode, with the same sponsor read, now lives on two or three platforms under handles that may not match. A record keyed on one platform sees a fraction of the creator.

Why one creator now needs one record

When the same show runs on YouTube and Instagram, a creator stored as separate, unlinked accounts causes problems that are easy to miss:

Start from the YouTube channel

For long-form creators, the YouTube channel is usually the best place to start. It is where the full episodes have lived the longest, and its channel ID never changes, even when the creator renames the @handle. Store the UC… channel ID as your stable key and treat the handle as a display value. If you only have a handle, our guide on getting a YouTube channel ID from a handle shows how to look it up.

The API accepts a channel in any of its usual URL forms: youtube.com/@handle, youtube.com/channel/UC…, and the older /c/ and /user/ paths. It takes profiles, not content, so a video, Short or playlist link is refused with a 400. If a list you were given is made of video links, resolve each one to its channel first. For the manual checks behind each match, see how to find all of a creator's social media accounts.

Find the Instagram account from a YouTube channel with the API

One request takes one profile URL and returns the creator's other accounts. Each account comes with a verdict, a net confidence score and the evidence that connected it to the seed, such as a link in the creator's own bio or link page. A fresh lookup takes 10 to 40 seconds; a creator already in our records comes back at once. A lookup costs 1 credit when it finds at least one account, and nothing when it finds none.

Node.js

// Resolve a YouTube channel to the creator's other accounts.
const res = await fetch("https://sociallinks.dev/v1/resolve", {
  method: "POST",
  headers: {
    Authorization: `Bearer ${process.env.SOCIALLINKS_KEY}`,
    "Content-Type": "application/json",
  },
  body: JSON.stringify({ url: "https://www.youtube.com/@mkbhd" }),
});
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`lookup failed: ${res.status}`);
const data = await res.json();

const wanted = ["instagram", "tiktok", "x"];
for (const p of data.profiles) {
  if (p.verdict === "seed" || !wanted.includes(p.platform)) continue;
  console.log(p.platform, p.handle, p.verdict, p.role, p.net_confidence);
}
console.log("credits left:", res.headers.get("X-Credits-Remaining"));

The response describes the creator first (creator.name, creator.aliases, creator.total_audience) and then lists every account in profiles, with the seed you sent marked as seed. The fields you will use most:

FieldWhat it tells you
platform, handle, urlWhich account it is, with a canonical link.
platform_idThe platform's own id when known, such as the YouTube channel ID. Prefer it over the handle as a key.
verdictconfirmed, likely or uncertain. Only confirmed has independent evidence behind it.
rolemain for the creator's primary account on that platform, related for a second channel, sub-brand or regional account.
net_confidenceSearch and verification scores combined, from 0 to 1.
evidenceWhy the account matched: each item has a kind, a detail and the source URL.
owned_by_other_creatorOne of the account's links already belongs to a different creator in our records, so treat it with care.

Decide what to store

The API labels its uncertainty instead of hiding it, so your code can decide what to do with each level. A simple policy that works for most creator databases:

ResultSuggested action
confirmed, role: mainLink it to the creator record automatically.
confirmed, role: relatedStore it as a separate account on the same creator, not merged into the main one.
likelyPut it in a review queue with its evidence. A person decides.
uncertainDo not store it as the creator's. Keep it only as a lead, if at all.
owned_by_other_creator: trueHold it for review whatever the verdict.

Keep the evidence array next to each stored account. When someone asks why a creator's Instagram is in your system, you can show the link that proved it, and when a creator renames an account you can see which proof went stale.

Keep the map current

A creator map is a snapshot. Creators open new accounts, rename old ones and drop platforms that stop paying, and a test like Features gives them a fresh reason to change their setup. Plan for a refresh from the start:

  1. Step 1Re-run lookups on a schedule

    Refresh on a fixed cycle, and sooner for the creators you work with most. Compare the new result with the stored one and log what changed.

  2. Step 2Send whole lists as batches

    Use the batch endpoint for whole lists: up to 500 profile URLs per batch, run in the background, with a CSV export of one row per creator and one column per platform. Rows your account paid for in the last 30 days are free, and rows that find nothing cost nothing.

  3. Step 3Watch for new accounts and changed roles

    Look out for a new confirmed Instagram account on a creator who had none, or a main account that turns into a related one. Both usually mean the creator has reorganised how they publish.

cURL

curl -X POST "https://sociallinks.dev/v1/batches" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SOCIALLINKS_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"name":"Long-form creators, November","urls":["https://www.youtube.com/@mkbhd","https://www.youtube.com/@ZachKing"]}'

Poll GET /v1/batches/{id} until the status is completed, partial or failed, then download GET /v1/batches/{id}/export for the CSV. The API reference lists every field and error.

What the mapping does not tell you

Resolving accounts answers who the creator is on each platform. It does not tell you whether a creator is part of Instagram's Features test, what any deal is worth, or how their views split between platforms. Instagram has not published a list of creators in the test, and Meta has said it is too early to share a long-term payout model. Treat the account map as the foundation and gather those answers from the creator, their posts and your own campaign data.

Try it on your own list

Paste one YouTube channel on sociallinks.dev to see its accounts and the evidence behind each match, then create an API key and run your list through the API.

FAQ

How do I find a YouTuber's Instagram account?

Start with the links the creator placed themselves: the channel's links, the video descriptions and any link-in-bio page. To do it in code, send the channel URL to POST /v1/resolve and keep the Instagram profile only if its verdict is confirmed.

Can I send a YouTube video link instead of a channel link?

No. The API takes profile URLs only, so video, Short and playlist links are refused with a 400. Resolve the video to its channel first, then send the channel URL.

What is the difference between a main and a related account?

A main account is the creator's primary account on that platform. A related account belongs to the same creator but is a second channel, a sub-brand or a regional account. Both count as matches, but they should be stored as separate accounts.

Does the API tell me if a creator is in Instagram's Features test?

No. It finds the creator's accounts and the evidence that links them. Whether a creator posts Features, and on what terms, is something to check on their profile and ask them directly.

How often should I refresh a creator's linked accounts?

Re-run lookups on a schedule, and sooner for creators you work with closely. Platforms are changing how they pay creators, and creators often respond by opening, renaming or abandoning accounts. In a batch, rows your account paid for in the last 30 days are free.

What happens if no accounts are found?

You are not charged. A lookup costs 1 credit only when it finds at least one account.
